Risk Management in space – 4C Strategies host Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang

Christer Fuglesang, the only Swedish astronaut to date visited Exobar, a repeat event organised by 4C Strategies, on the 19th of February to give a presentation on systematic risk management. The event was attended by leading risk managers from the Swedish public and private sector.

During his presentation, Fuglesang emphasized the importance of systematic risk management as a tool to succeed with projects in a complex environment. As the complexity in the business context is increasing, companies and organizations could learn from the approach in space in order to create a robust and secure business. “We are proud to have Christer Fuglesang at our event, speaking about systematic risk management to a selection of Sweden´s leading risk managers.

Fuglesang´s experience confirms that risk management is a central issue for managing business and succeeding with complex projects. This highlights the importance of treating risk management as a prioritized management strategy and not as a side project” says Magnus Bergqvist, CEO of 4C Strategies. “Before, during and after a space mission, we treat risk management as top priority and consider it to be the most important factor to consider. In such an extreme environment, there is no room for mistakes or unexpected problems. As the complexity increases, the need for risk management is even greater. Therefore I think that companies and organizations have an opportunity to learn from the systematic risk approach in space as it will result in a more robust, secure and more successful business” says Christer Fuglesang.
